Free memory screenings to be held at Banner Sun Health Research Institute
Sun City, AZ (November 9, 2011) — Banner Sun Health Research Institute (BSHRI) and Adutlcare Assistance Homecare is promoting early detection of memory problems and appropriate intervention through our free memory screenings. The FREE memory screenings will take place on November 16th and 17th from 9:00 – 3:30 in the Morin Auditorium. BSHRI and Adutlcare Assistance Homecare encourages adults with memory concerns, a family history of Alzheimer’s disease or a desire to establish a baseline score for future comparison to get screened and to pick up educational materials about memory concerns, successful aging and local resources.
“Memory Screening offers a free and convenient way to check out memory concerns and brain health in general,” says Marwan Sabbagh MD, director of clinical research at Banner Sun Health Research Institute. “Early identification of Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia allows affected individuals and their family members to benefit from available treatments that can help slow progression of symptoms, as well as to plan for the future and access social services support.”
Getting screened is the first point of addressing brain health. Many people feel that they are forgetful but do not discuss their forgetfulness with their physicians. While age poses the greatest risk for Alzheimer’s disease, affecting mostly people aged 65 and older, other risk factors such as depression, diabetes, brain injury and obesity—all known risk factors for the brain disorder. Alzheimer’s disease warning signs include: forgetting people’s names and events, asking repetitive questions, loss of verbal or written skills and confusion over daily routines.
